There are multiple different types of suspension systems, all with their own pros and cons. The two broadest categories of suspension are independent and dependent. Independent suspension systems allow the wheel to move independently of an axle.

Independent

The vast majority of FS and FSAE vehicles use independent suspension. The most common type used in FSAE is the double wishbone or A-arm configuration.

Double wishbone variants

  • Equal Parallel DWB
  • Unequal Parallel DWB
  • Unequal Nonparallel DWB

Other types

  • McPherson
  • Multilink
  • Trailing arm

Non/Semi-Independent

  • Beam Axle
  • De Dion
