Safety Wire

Safety wire is as a positive retention strategy for bolts in blind holes. Made of thin steel wire, it is threaded through the heads of bolts to stop any change of rotation. To ensure the bolts cannot back out of the hole, the wire is threaded around the bolt head in the tightening direction, and the wire is twisted to lock the bolt to the wire and provide tension to the system. <-reword this.
On occasion, safety wire can be used in conjunction with other positive locking mechanisms, but it is not advised to safety-wire a bolt that is retained by a nut.
